Over 300 UXO Unearthed Next to a Siem Reap High School

Siem Reap: Students at a Siem Reap high school appear to have had a lucky escape. The Cambodian Mine Action Centre discovered 325 old grenades and other unexploded ordnance (UXO) next the school on Saturday.  The UXO dates back to January 1979.

The CMAC’s demining team, together with the National Armed Police Force, collected the cache on Saturday afternoon. During the operation, the area was cordoned off so that members of the public were not in any danger.

UXO, especially landlines are an ever-present danger in Cambodia. Together with demining organizations from around the world, the country is working hard to make Cambodia landmine free by 2025.
